People & Communities

Our people & communities

KPC's network connects businesses, industries and communities across Kenya. Our impact depends on the people who operate it, the communities alongside it and the businesses that form part of our supply chain.

We focus on three things: keeping people safe, creating opportunity and building lasting value where we operate.

Our commitment: safe people, strong communities, shared opportunity

The value of KPC is not measured only by the energy we move. It is also measured by the people we develop, businesses we enable and communities we help strengthen.

Safety

Everyone home safe. Every single day.

Safety is not just a priority, it's a value. We're responsible for moving highly flammable products, and we take that responsibility seriously. The safety of our people, our communities and the environment is non-negotiable.

Our commitment:

  • Zero harm: we aim for zero incidents affecting people and communities.
  • Continuous training: regular safety drills and education for all staff.
  • Community awareness: educating the public on pipeline safety.
  • Emergency preparedness: 24/7 response teams and equipment.

Meet the people who keep the region moving

A pipeline does not operate itself. Behind every litre moved through the network are people – pump station operators, engineers, laboratory technicians, depot teams, control-room specialists, maintenance crews, safety professionals and customer-facing teams. They work around the clock to keep the network safe, reliable and responsive.

Skills that fuel the regional economy

Our 1,377 employees provide the expertise behind KPC's operations, from pipeline and depot operations to engineering, customer service and corporate functions.

We invest in technical skills, leadership, wellbeing and succession so our customers can rely on a capable workforce today and a stronger one tomorrow.

Through the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas and workplace learning programmes, we are building capability in pipeline operations, maintenance, safety, emergency response, digital systems and leadership.

Respect & human rights

We expect employees, contractors and partners to uphold safe, respectful and fair working environments. Our policies and processes address discrimination, harassment, forced and child labour, grievance resolution and protection from retaliation, helping create a workplace and supply chain people can trust.

Communities

Working with the communities along our network

Our network crosses 14 counties, and KPC's infrastructure shares space with farms, businesses, homes and public facilities across the country. Safe operations depend on strong relationships. We work with communities and local leaders to improve pipeline safety, address wayleave matters, prevent encroachment and vandalism, and prepare together for emergencies.

But our relationship goes beyond protecting infrastructure.

Where KPC operates, we also seek to create opportunity through employment, local procurement, skills development, education, health, water and other community investments.

Our impact is measured in what changes

Education

Opportunities for children and young people.

Health

Stronger access to essential healthcare.

Water

Projects that improve access to a basic resource.

Enterprise

Local procurement that keeps economic value within communities.

Positive impact on stakeholders

KPC creates economic value by supporting national energy security, enabling regional trade, improving supply reliability, procuring locally, paying taxes, employing people and investing in communities. Our infrastructure helps move petroleum products safely and efficiently across Kenya and into regional markets.

Our stakeholders

Trusted relationships are essential to how we operate. We engage shareholders, employees, communities, regulators, customers, suppliers and partners to understand their priorities, explain our decisions and improve our performance. Fuelling East Africa's growth

Our contribution to Kenya goes beyond moving fuel. We're a major employer, a significant taxpayer and a catalyst for economic development. Our role in East Africa's economy:

  • Ensuring energy security
  • Supporting industry and commerce
  • Enabling regional trade
  • Driving infrastructure development

Our supply chain creates opportunities for Kenyan businesses across engineering, construction, logistics, maintenance and professional services. We combine competitive procurement with standards for integrity, safety, quality, responsible sourcing and value for money.

Sustainable & responsible supply chain

Responsible procurement is part of how KPC manages risk and creates shared value. Our procurement and contractor-management processes incorporate environmental, social, health and safety expectations, supplier due diligence, fair competition, transparency and value for money.

We communicate ethical and environmental expectations to suppliers and contractors, conduct due diligence for higher-risk work and require corrective action where non-conformances are identified. Supplier development and AGPO sensitisation help improve participation by women-, youth- and disability-owned enterprises.

KPC Foundation

Investing in the places we call home

The KPC Foundation supports communities around KPC's areas of operation through programmes in education, health, water and community development. But the real measure of the Foundation is not how much we invest.

It is what changes because we invested.
